The Freedom Towers

The Freedom Towers

I am not one to dwell upon tragedies in our country.  I feel as if so many countries have massive tragedies on par with September 11th, 2001 and, as a whole, we are so blessed as a nation it is almost obscene.  That said, I had the privilege of visiting the Freedom Towers and Sept. 11th Memorial Museum in New York City this past January.  It was simply stunning.  When I was there, the towers were not quite finished but I was able to visit this scene at night and was overwhelmed by the amazing sight that this is.  What a fitting tribute to the massive numbers of innocent lives that were lost that day.

The power of the resilience of the human spirit is demonstrated so clearly in this fitting tribute.  It is well worth a visit.  And, they have done such a beautiful job creating a space to heal.  The Memorial is tranquil and honest while not being just a sad reminder of the tragedy, but rather a celebration.

That said, here are some of the photos I took:

The lighting in the foreground of this photo is a sampling of the names of those lost on this fateful day.  They surround the forever pool.
